Privacy Policy
Last updated: 21 October 2026
- No account, no sign-up, no login.
- No analytics, no tracking, no advertising, no third-party SDKs that collect data.
- Your clipboard history, images and settings are stored only on your Mac.
- Live Translator listens only while you run it. Audio is processed on your Mac and is never recorded or uploaded.
- Text leaves your Mac only if you set up a third-party AI provider and choose it, and then it goes directly to that provider, not to us.
Mac PowerTools ("the app") is published by Webpress, Vietnam ("we", "us"). This policy explains what happens to your data when you use the app.
Data the app stores on your Mac
| Data | Where | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Clipboard history (text and images you copy), pins | A local database and files in the app's container on your Mac | So you can search and paste earlier items |
| Settings (shortcuts, excluded apps, retention, favorites) | macOS user defaults on your Mac | To remember your preferences |
| API keys for AI providers you add | macOS Keychain | So you do not have to re-enter them |
| Live Translator transcripts | A local database in the app's container on your Mac | So you can read and export them later |
| Images you open in Image Tools | Processed in memory; saved only where you export them | To edit, convert or analyze them |
None of this is sent to us. You stay in control:
- Delete single items or clear all history from the clipboard panel or Settings.
- Set a retention limit so old history is deleted automatically.
- Exclude apps so nothing copied in them is recorded.
- Items that password managers mark as concealed (the standard
org.nspasteboard.ConcealedTypemarker) are not saved. This is on by default. - Deleting the app and its folder
~/Library/Containers/vn.webpress.mactoolsremoves everything. Remove API keys in Settings or Keychain Access.
On-device processing
- Translation (default): Apple's Translation framework runs on your Mac. Apple downloads a language the first time you use it; after that, translation works offline. Apple's privacy policy covers those downloads.
- Apple Intelligence (optional, macOS 26 on supported Macs): uses Apple's on-device models and, when Apple determines it is needed, Apple's Private Cloud Compute, under Apple's privacy terms. We receive nothing.
- Text recognition (OCR) and background removal: Apple's Vision framework, on your Mac.
Live Translator: audio and speech
Live Translator is a Mac PowerTools Pro tool for macOS 26. It turns audio into live subtitles and translations.
- It listens only after you click Start Listening, only to the source you chose (system audio, one app, or the microphone), and stops when you click Stop Listening.
- Audio is processed in memory on your Mac. It is never recorded to a file, stored, or uploaded, and it is never sent to us or to any AI provider.
- Speech is transcribed on your Mac with Apple's Speech framework, and speakers are separated on your Mac. macOS downloads a speech language the first time you use it; after that, it works offline.
- Transcribed text is translated with Apple Translation on your Mac by default, or with Apple Intelligence. If you choose a cloud provider you set up yourself, only the transcribed text and the target language are sent, directly to that provider.
- Transcripts are saved only on your Mac. Exporting creates a file only where you choose. Delete transcripts from History at any time.
Third-party AI providers (optional, off by default)
You can add your own AI provider for translation, such as Anthropic (Claude), OpenAI, OpenRouter, any OpenAI-compatible service, or a local server such as Ollama or LM Studio.
- This happens only if you add a provider with your own API key or local address and choose it.
- When you translate with it, the text you asked to translate (or the transcribed text, in Live Translator) and the target language are sent directly from your Mac to that provider over HTTPS. Audio, images, other clipboard items and your history are not sent.
- That provider handles the text under its own terms and privacy policy. We are not part of that exchange and never see the text, the reply or your key.
- Local providers (Ollama, LM Studio) run on your Mac or your network, so the text stays on machines you control.
Purchases
Mac PowerTools is free. Mac PowerTools Pro is an optional one-time in-app purchase handled entirely by Apple. We receive no payment details or personal information, only the anonymous confirmation the app uses to unlock Pro on your Mac.
Permissions
- Accessibility: used only when you trigger an action, to paste the item you picked into the app you are using and to read the text you selected when you press Translate or Grab. The app does not monitor typing or read the screen in the background.
- Screen Recording: only if you use Screenshot in Image Tools, to capture the region you choose.
- Microphone: only when you choose the microphone as the source in Live Translator, including the Conversation tab.
- Speech Recognition: to transcribe, on your Mac, the audio Live Translator is listening to.
- System audio recording: only while Live Translator runs on system audio or an app's audio. It captures sound only, never the screen image.
Children
The app is rated 4+ and collects no data from anyone, including children.
Changes
If this policy changes, we will update this page and the date above, and mention material changes in the app's release notes.
