Answers to common questions, and how to reach us.

Contact: support@webpress.vn. We reply within two business days (Vietnam time, UTC+7). Please include your macOS version, the Mac PowerTools version (menu bar icon › About) and what you expected to happen.

Getting started

  1. Open Mac PowerTools. It lives in the menu bar: look for the clipboard icon at the top right of your screen.
  2. Copy something, then press ⇧⌘V to open the clipboard panel.
  3. Pick an item and press Return. The first time, macOS asks for Accessibility access so Mac PowerTools can paste for you (see below).
  4. Optional: open Settings › General to turn on Launch at login, show or hide the Dock icon, and change shortcuts.

Accessibility permission

Mac PowerTools needs Accessibility access to paste into the app you are using and to read the text you select for Translate (⌥⇧⌘T) and Grab (⌥⇧⌘C). It acts only when you press a shortcut or pick an item.

Turn it on
  1. Open System Settings › Privacy & Security › Accessibility.
  2. Switch on Mac PowerTools. If it is not listed, click +, choose Mac PowerTools in Applications, and switch it on.
  3. Quit Mac PowerTools from its menu bar icon and open it again.
It is on, but pasting still does not work
  1. In System Settings › Privacy & Security › Accessibility, select Mac PowerTools and click − to remove it.
  2. Quit and reopen Mac PowerTools, trigger a paste, and grant access again when asked. This refreshes the permission after an update.
  3. Some apps block synthetic key presses in secure fields (passwords, some terminals with Secure Keyboard Entry on). Turn off Secure Keyboard Entry in Terminal › Settings, or paste with ⌘V after choosing Copy only (⌘Return).
Translate selection says no text was selected

Some apps do not share the selected text with macOS. Mac PowerTools then copies the selection briefly and restores your clipboard. If it still fails, copy the text, open the clipboard panel and translate the item from there.

Translation languages

The default engine is Apple's on-device Translation (macOS 15 or later). It is free and works offline, but each language must be downloaded once.

  1. The first time you translate a language pair, macOS asks to download it. Click Download and keep the Mac online until it finishes.
  2. To manage languages, open System Settings › General › Language & Region › Translation Languages, and download or remove languages there.
  3. Turn on On-Device Mode in the same place if you want translations to never use the network.

On macOS 14, Apple's Translation engine is not available; choose Apple Intelligence (macOS 26) or an AI provider in Settings.

Adding an AI provider

Optional. Use it for more natural translations or languages Apple does not cover.

  1. Open Mac PowerTools Settings › AI Providers and click Add.
  2. Choose a provider: Claude (Anthropic), OpenAI, OpenRouter, OpenAI-compatible, Ollama or LM Studio.
  3. Paste your API key (cloud providers) or check the address (local: Ollama http://localhost:11434, LM Studio http://localhost:1234). Pick a model.
  4. Click Test, then make it the translation engine in Settings › Translation.

Keys are stored in your Mac's Keychain. The provider bills you directly. Text you translate with a cloud provider is sent straight from your Mac to that provider; see the Privacy Policy.

Live Translator

Live Translator shows live subtitles and translations for system audio, one app, or the microphone. It is part of Mac PowerTools Pro and needs macOS 26 Tahoe. To start, open Mac PowerTools, choose Live Translator in the sidebar, pick a source and the languages, and click Start Listening.

Live Translator asks me to update macOS

Live Translator uses speech features that only exist in macOS 26 Tahoe. Open System Settings › General › Software Update and install macOS 26. Everything else in Mac PowerTools keeps working on macOS 14 and later.

Turn on the permissions

macOS asks for each permission the first time you click Start Listening with a source that needs it. If you clicked Don't Allow, turn it on here, then quit and reopen Mac PowerTools:

  1. Speech Recognition (always needed): System Settings › Privacy & Security › Speech Recognition › switch on Mac PowerTools.
  2. Microphone (only for the microphone source and the Conversation tab): System Settings › Privacy & Security › Microphone › switch on Mac PowerTools.
  3. System audio (only for system audio or one app): System Settings › Privacy & Security › Screen & System Audio Recording › switch on Mac PowerTools. It may be listed under System Audio Recording Only. Live Translator captures sound only, never the screen image.
Download speech and translation languages
  1. Choose the spoken language and the language to translate into in Live Translator. If the speech model for the spoken language is missing, click Download when asked and keep the Mac online until it finishes.
  2. For translation with Apple Translation, download the target language in System Settings › General › Language & Region › Translation Languages.
  3. Once both are downloaded, Live Translator works offline. A cloud provider always needs internet.
Subtitles do not appear

Audio is processed on your Mac and is never recorded or uploaded. Transcripts are saved only on your Mac; export or delete them from History. See the Privacy Policy.

Clipboard history

Something I copied is not in the history
A shortcut does nothing

Another app may use the same keys. Open Settings › General and record a different shortcut.

Clear my history

Open the clipboard panel and use Clear History, or set a retention limit in Settings › Clipboard. Pinned items stay until you unpin them.

Mac PowerTools Pro

Uninstall or reset

  1. Quit Mac PowerTools from its menu bar icon.
  2. Drag Mac PowerTools from Applications to the Trash.
  3. To delete all history and settings too, remove the folder ~/Library/Containers/vn.webpress.mactools. Remove saved API keys in Keychain Access (search "Mac PowerTools").
